Weekend Snapshots

Weekend Snapshots
Happy Monday everyone! How was your weekend? My weekend was spent with Josh and my dad who is visiting from Pennsylvania. I've only gotten to see him once a year in the two years since I've lived in Omaha so I tried to soak up every moment that I could. That meant not a lot of social media interaction this weekend, but a ton of fun and new memories. We were go-go-go all weekend and it has left me feeling like I need a weekend after my weekend! Haha I'm trying to get to bed early tonight, so I'm going to let my pictures do most of the talking in this post. Don't forget to link-up to your weekend snapshots at the bottom of this post! image After we picked my dad up from the airport we took him to Tom+Chee for dinner. He loved getting to make his own grilled cheese sandwich and thought it was delicious. image Saturday morning we walked downtown to get breakfast at The Diner. I love this building. image It was really hot on Saturday so we tried to stay indoors as much as possible. We spent the morning at the Joslyn Art Museum and then took my dad grocery shopping with us. Whole Foods was having a store-wide competition where shoppers got to be the judge. We went from department to department  trying all the different foods and at the end got to vote for our favorite. There was a blueberry cobbler that was out of this world. image After grocery shopping we headed to Lauritzen Gardens to show my dad the huge train display that overlooks the highway welcoming people to Omaha. image image I learned a lot walking around with my dad while he pointed out the parts and various features of the trains. I wish some of his handiness had passed on to me! I know nothing about that sort of stuff. image For dinner we took my dad to South Omaha for some delicious Mexican food. Check out that guacamole boat! image We all loved El Alamo. To date it's the best Mexican food I've had in Omaha. Their sauces and seasonings are unreal. After dinner we headed home and watched the first Despicable Me movie. image Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to head to Mahoney State Park. We had tickets to go horseback riding! image How cute are these ponies that give pony rides? Of course we all had to get pictures with them: image image image image Horseback riding was so much fun! My horse's name was Bubba and he was the best. He stayed on the path, didn't try to eat anything, and wasn't mean to the other horses! Sunday was a lot cooler than Saturday and it was so nice to take a leisurely stroll through the forest on horseback. image Mahoney State park is such a great park. There's a waterpark, a theater, golf, cabins, horseback riding,  educational classes, paddle boats, and an observation deck. image Some of the views from the open observation deck. We walked up the five stories to get to the top and were amazed to feel the structure swaying slightly in the wind. Apparently that's necessary for the stability of tall open structures. image After a morning at the State Park we headed to Voodoo Taco on the way home for lunch. image Then we made our way over to the Durham Museum. I had never been there before and thought it was so cool. Josh and I definitely want to go back! image Before it was a museum it used to be the train station that brought commerce and tourists into Omaha. I love how they preserved a city treasure for future generations. image The exhibits were crazy. Check out this bison! image I loved how interactive everything was. We could walk through trains, touch exhibits, and even climb on some for photos! image We ended our museum trip with a malted milkshake (Josh's favorite) at the soda fountain that has been there since the train station first opened. image We picked up La Casa pizza on the way home to eat while watching the second Minion movie. image And gave this guy lots of love since we had been out and about all weekend. It was such a great weekend that went by way, way too fast! [Tweet "Weekend Snapshots #omaha #summer #family"] Questions of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend? Do you enjoy horseback riding? Do you get to see your parents often? Do you like visiting museums?
