Meeting the Rockettes
This technically happened on a weekday but I had to include it. I got to meet two Rockettes! They were so incredibly nice and are so good at what they do. Omaha Bloggers Network was invited to attend the meet and greet event at the Holland Center thanks to the Omaha Performing Arts.
Ballet and Opera at Midtown Crossing
Josh and I had a little date night on the green at Midtown Crossing. We picked up dinner from Grey Plume and a champagne from Brix. I was so excited to find the almond champagne! It was just as good as I remembered. :D
Ballet Nebraska put on a free performance that was incredible. It was a 60's themed dance of the jungle. I loved it.
Dancing was followed by beautiful singing as Opera Omaha took the stage. I loved hearing the Flower Duet. I was just in awe the whole time.
BarCamp Omaha 2014
If your city has a BarCamp you really need to check it out.
Friday night was the bar portion of the conference at House of Loom. Their Irish Mules are the best.
Then Saturday morning started off the Ted-like talks. Omaha Bloggers represented! Lauren and Erin gave a great talk on work at home parenting.
I attended one of the most useful financial talks. Long story short: save! Josh and I are going to start tracking our net worth, as well as setting up Mint accounts.
Hit that Dive shared his top dive bars in Omaha. I sent this list to Josh and he immediately responded, "We need to visit all of these!"
Block 16
Saturday night Josh was having a guy's night with his friends. I was getting together with the girls for a night out, but not until later in the evening. I wanted to give the guys their space so I decided to head to Block 16 for dinner. I mean twist my arm, right? I got their special chicken and rice in a truffle sauce. It was so good.
Girls' Night Out
While the guys were doing their thing we went and did ours. We all met up at Molly's house and hung out and enjoyed drinks before walking over to Dudley's.
There we got beers.
And food.
And had an all around awesome night. I love my friends.
#CheatOnGreek
I'll be posting about this in more detail later this month but have you heard about Stonyfield's new Petite Creme? It has a few grams of fat, a few grams of sugar, and a good amount of protein. This is basically the exact nutritional ratio I've been looking for in a snack. It's also delicious.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The Rose Theater invited me to check out their latest production. It is The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites. Created by the renowned Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia this tour brought to Omaha what is usually reserved for big Broadway touring houses. The show is a gorgeous puppet show that uses blacklights to create a live-animation show right in front of your eyes. Josh and I were literally spell-bound. While kids will absolutely love it (and it was adorable hearing their reactions), this is completely a show for adults too.
The first show was The Little Cloud.
The second was The Mixed-Up Chameleon. This was my personal favorite. Pictured are the puppeteers who held a Q&A after so we could learn how they work their puppeteer magic during the show.
And the finale was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. These were all such beautiful stories with such great messages. I will be buying all these books when Josh and I start a family.
Sunday Date Night
We ended our Sunday with a walk around Regency. The weather was so perfect I needed to be outside. While I am in no rush to move out of our apartment and have babies, it's fun to dream and have talks about someday.
After our walk we stopped at Whole Foods to pick up dinner and grocery shop for the week. I got this entire bowl of food for $6 from the hot bar! I was very proud. :D
And that ended our weekend. As fun as it was, I'm looking forward to what the new week will bring!
Questions of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend? Have you read The Very Hungry Caterpillar? Are you a fan of dive bars?
